What is Collectible Escalators? An independent record label based in Cleveland OH, Collectible Escalators releases a select number of very excellent records and other treasures. Where does the name Collectible Escalators come from? Some years ago we were spending an afternoon drinking beer and someone mentioned a novel by Nicholson Baker called "The Mezzanine." It's about a man riding an escalator on his lunch break. Well, the conversation turned to teleportation and jet-paks and how one day in the not-too-distant future escalators will become relics, things you might see displayed in museums. Eccentric millionaires will collect them. And then after some more beers we were talking about a name for a record label we wanted to start and etc. etc. In hindsight, Mezzanine was probably the better name for a record label. But we like how the post office ladies announce "Collectible Escalators" when we walk in to check our mailbox. The way it clicks and rolls off the tongue and the other customers say "Excuse me?"
